Keyword tools are something every marketer needs to utilize but there are problems that come with using just any of them. When you’re a niche marketer, you rely on keyword tools to help you find the perfect words and phrases that will catapult your online campaign ahead of your competitors.

There are three tiers of keyword tools – free, affordable, and expensive. Which ones are worth your investment of both time and money (if applicable)? Well with free keyword tools, you’re going to run into some problems – primarily that they tend to be short-lived.

People will create free keyword tools as part of a viral marketing campaign, release it to the masses who get used to utilizing it, and then quit supporting it, allowing it to become outdated and useless. Now some free keyword tools, like those provided by major search engines such as Google, may have more staying power.

Then there are other keyword tools that are affordable to the niche marketer just getting started online. These usually come in packages where a later upgrade to a more expensive model or tier is available.

Take WordTracker, for example. This particular keyword tool has been around for years and has become a staple for many online marketers. The company permits a free trial, but then you’re given the choice of several tiers for paid access.

For WordTracker, access is marked by a timeline. You can buy a monthly subscription for the keyword database, or pay less by investing in an annual subscription.  Other keyword tools simply give better information with a top tier package.

Spyfu is another popular top keyword tool used by Internet marketers. It gives a sneak peek into the system using a free trial subscription, but then with a paid subscription you’re given advanced analytics information.

In addition to just getting more data (free trials get you a top 10 result while paid gets you unlimited results), you also tack on additional perks. For example, with a paid subscription of Spyfu, you could find out the cost per click of a keyword, the number of ads and search results, and more.

Many marketers are jumping ship to get onboard the Keyword Discovery train. They do the traditional free versus paid subscriptions and give you access to basic keyword research, spelling mistake data, seasonal search trends, KEI and density analysis, and more. They have three tiers – free, standard and professional, with each one increasing the number of benefits and results that you get when you sign up.

Doing keyword research with quotation marks(“”) is a little trick that I learned from an affiliate buddy a while ago. But not too many newbies to internet marketing who are researching a topic know about. I’m going to hopefully clear it up a little here. The reason why we do keyword research in “” marks is really quite simple when you understand the reasons so keep your ears on.

When searching google for a keyword phrase to use for your articles its always a great idea to check what kind of competition you are up against. The ideal is to find a phrase where the competing pages are less than about 30′000, now that may sound like a lot but in reality it isn’t. and the only way to find your true competition is to use “” marks when searching. Let me give you an example.

If I search for the term: buying a new flat screen TV, I see there are 21,800,000 results, however that is actually a false number of competing pages for that keyword as what google is finding is articles and websites that have those words in ANY order i.e. I was buying fish and chips and the new till the woman used had a flat lcd screen just like a laptop or a TV… Not really competition is it?

However by searching for the same keyword term but in quote marks i.e. typing in “buying a new flat screen TV” I get those words in exactly that order and holly baloney only 32,000 matching results.

Now if I didn’t know about keyword research in quote marks I’d certainly been scared of thinking that I had to beat almost 22million webpages to reach the top of google, but knowing about “” for keyword research I know I have a pretty good chance of hitting page one with a wll written article. submitted to ezine articles of a similar directory.

Now you know make sure you do all your keyword research in “” OK :)

The following are tips in creating a successful landing page that converts visitors into subscribers.

Success Tip 1: Offer something free in exchange for your visitor’s email address. I very much endorse this method of building your mailing list. This could be a special report or a sample of your paid product to your visitor in exchange for their details such as name and email address.

Success Tip 2: Make sure it’s professional. When writing your page, treat it as if you are writing a sales letter. It does not have to be a hard sale or try to get someone to buy your product upfront.  It does mean being able to entice your visitors to give their details to you.

Success Tip 3: Other than your opt-in form and include any important disclaimers and terms, there shouldn’t be any other links on your landing page except for these.

Success Tip 4:Make sure you focus on the benefits of the freebie you are offering.  This should be more than a mere subscription to your newsletter. Focus attention towards encouraging your prospective visitor to download your free offer. You can also gently remind your prospect that he or she has nothing to pay but just merely subscribe to your newsletter in exchange for a free gift.

survival-425You have signed up with an affiliate program that appears to be just what you were looking for.  You’re all set to go – your strategy is in place, you have your banners and your marketing materials are ready to go.  Now that you have all of these tools, you might be wondering how come your strategy isn’t working and what you can do to improve your affiliate sales.

Check your referrals - A lot of potential customers are ‘looking’ but do not necessarily buy the first time they visit your affiliate link.  Cookies that are left on an affiliate site do tend to expire.  Some last only one session, others can last for a long time. When you are referring people, advise them to clean their ‘cookies’ from time to time so you’ll get credit for their referral and their business.

Payment methods – Hopefully before you have started advertising a particular product or service you are already aware of what payment methods are accepted.  While many offer a variety of payment methods, this isn’t necessarily good for you as the marketer.    Find out the payment methods that are accepted and what happens when someone uses each one.

Tracking – Determine exactly how your affiliate program tracks referrals.  Even the most forthright and open affiliate program may have problems with their tracking software.  Make sure that you know exactly how they work, how they track cookies and how they make payments.  Keep up to date on all changes that are made so you know exactly what works and what does not.
